After recovering the skeletal remains of a 30-year-old man Chad Austin who vanished nearly a year ago on a hike, Virginia State Police investigate his death as a homicide.
Austin was last seen alive by campers during the Memorial Day weekend of 2019. His body was found in March near Panther Falls in Lexington. His car was found abandoned nearby the day after, with his dog alive and well inside, and during the following weeks Austin’s keys and other personal items were recovered. Since then, the investigators from the Buena Vista Police Department have developed new information in the case which prompted them to get back to the waterfall.
So far, the investigators have not revealed the cause of Austin’s death or if they believe he was killed intentionally, but they believe that someone in the local community has critical information that could lead to arrests. The sheriff’s department has already received several tips, reports People.
Anyone with any information on Austin’s disappearance and death is urged to call the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at (800) 542-5959 or (540) 375-9589.
