A tourist from New York has been arrested for allegedly violating Hawaii’s traveler quarantine restrictions after posting Instagram photos of himself sunbathing and posing with a surfboard.
Tarique Peters, 23, of the Bronx, arrived in Honolulu on May 11th, reports the Associated Press. He allegedly left his hotel room the day he arrived and traveled to many places using public transportation. Authorities received a tip about the photos of him on the beach with a surfboard, sunbathing, and walking around Waikiki at night.
Travelers in Hawaii must be quarantined for 14 days after arriving. They aren’t allowed to leave hotel rooms or residences for any reason except for medical emergencies. Hotel guests don’t receive housekeeping services and must arrange for food to be delivered to them.
Tatique Peters was booked, and his bail was set at $4,000.
