Lubbock Police Chase: Car Crashes Into House After Driver Exits The Moving Vehicle, 2 Injured

The Major Crash Investigation Unit in Lubbock, Texas, is investigating a crash resulting from a pursuit that occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m on May 23rd.

A Toyota Corolla was traveling in the 1500 block of 82nd Street when an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The car did not initially stop and its driver began to evade the officer, who began to chase after it.

Eventually, the Corolla started heading westbound in the 1800 block of 75th Street. At one point, the driver left the car while it was still moving, and the vehicle, with two passengers inside, continued to roll across Avenue S, until it smashed into a house at the 1900 block of 75th.

The driver, 31-year-old Leslie Overstreet, and the front passenger, 26-year-old Rickay Smith, both had minor injuries but refused EMS. Another passenger, 25-year-old Hunter Nusz, was not injured. All three occupants of the Corolla were arrested on various charges and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center.

The investigation remains ongoing.
