1 Dead 2 Injured In Motel 8 Standoff With Active Shooter In Rockford, Illinois


Police forces in Rockford, Illinois, are currently engaged in a standoff with an unknown active shooter. He has barricaded himself inside a Super 8 Motel on Colosseum Drive. The standoff began around 12:40 a.m. CDT on May 17th; on the initial scanner call, police could be heard reporting bursts of gunfire from inside the building, reports Mystatleine.com/Eyewitness News.

According to the Rockford Police Chief Dan O’Shea, one person was killed and two injured. Their identities are currently unknown: there have been reports that one of the motel workers received gunshots, but Chief O’Shea could not confirm or deny that information.

All occupants of the motel had been evacuated, and the new guests seen arriving at the Motel 8 were quickly told there is an active shooter situation investigation.

There is a large police presence at the scene, and gunfire inside the hotel continues as of 4:06 a.m. CDT

 A bomb squad has arrived at the scene, which is typical for a situation like this, reports Eyewitness News. The incident remains ongoing as of 5 a.m. CDT.
